The Carbon Portal (CP) is the data centre of the International Carbon Observation System (ICOS). ICOS produces long-term top-quality measurements of greenhouse gas yield in the areas of the atmosphere, ecosystems, and oceans. CP develops, among other things, online services that support the use of data in research. CP is located at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science, Lund University.

ICOS is a highly distributed research infrastructure that requires coordination and continuous development. The further development of technologies and observation strategies is a strategic objective of ICOS, which is often supported by projects funded by the European Commission. Over the years, ICOS has participated in and run many EU projects. All these projects support the development of ICOS, its scientific target area and the development of CP as a FAIR data repository and a collaborative platform.

To lead the growing software development and operations team, ICOS Carbon Portal is looking for an IT-architect and teamleader. As a teamleader you will be responsible for allocating asks within the group. The position does not include mannagement responsibility (chefsansvar) for the group members.

Tasks

As an IT-architect and teamleader, you are mainly responsible for:

  • Planning and allocating tasks within the development team
  • Management of and participation in the development of software products;
  • Quality of the code and reliability of the (meta-)data services
  • Interpretation of product owner and user requests
  • The Data Management Strategy and its Evolution

Requirements

The successful candidate shall have:

  • At least five years of professional experience in full-stack software development
  • Good knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and Scala
  • Documented experience in developing Linked Data web services using RDF, SPARQL, OWL ontologies and triple stores
  • Familiarity with Linux server operation
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Experience and affinity with leading a team of professionals

As a person you have excellent communication skills and you are a team player.

Other merits
Communication skills in Swedish is an advantage. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Consideration will be given to good collaboration skills, drive and leadership. Affinity with (climate) research is a merit, as is experience in handling scientific data.

Terms and conditions
This is a permanent employment of 100% full time with desired start date 1 May 2025. A probationary period of 6 months may be applicable.

The advertised position will be located at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science by the Faculty of Science in 2025, to be transferred to the newly formed Department of Environmental and Earth Sciences within the same faculty from 1 January 2026.

By merging the Centre for Environmental and Climate Science, the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science and the Department of Geology in a joint and co-located organisation, the new department will strengthen the link between different research fields, develop new educational programmes and promote collaboration with society.
