The airspace is teeming with life, as flying animals such as birds, bats and insects all use the airspace for different types of movements and species interactions. Radar aeroecology is the study of life in the air using radar technology, a powerful technology that enables us to in detail study animals in the air. Studying animals movements in the airspace is increasingly important as the skies are getting more and more affected by anthropogenetic activities, ranging from construction to vehicles and pollution.

Work duties

The researcher will conduct research in radar aeroecology, analysing weather radar data to answer biological questions. The work will involve processing and analysing large amounts of data, writing publications, and actively seeking external research funding. There will also be collaborations with industry stakeholders and actors in society. The work will be performed in the Lund Migration Group in the division of Evolutionary Ecology and Infection Biology at the Department of Biology.

  • A PhD in ecology or another relevant field
