The Department of Process and Life Science Engineering (PLE) at Lund University is located at Kemicentrum, one of the Nordics' largest centers for education and research in the field of chemistry. PLE has around 150 employees, of which around 65 are PhD students. The department offers a broad competence in areas such as chemical engineering, food technology, biotechnology and technical microbiology. The research and education at PLE spans the entire subject of chemistry and includes both undergraduate and graduate education. Description of the workplace

The position is part of the Membrane Separation and New Food development that is ongoing at the department and is closely ties to the Biotech heights innovation hub that is under establishment.

Work duties 

This project assistant position is focused on developing downstream separation processes after fermentation in the new food area, with the aim of reducing water and nutrient needs by water recycling. The position involves development and verification of different separation processes for cell biomass and protein separation from fermentation broth. The work is carried out in collaboration with other employees in nearby projects and with the project's company contacts. 

Qualifications  

Required qualifications for the position are:

  • Master of Science in Chemical Engineering or equivalent education
  • Knowledge in downstream processes
  • Very good knowledge of English, in speech and writing

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Experience from different relevant separation processes such as HPLC and GC.

Further information 

The employment is a fixed-term employment as a project assistant for one year at 100 per cent of full time and starting 2025-06-01 or by agreement.
