The Department of Economic History is a research-intensive department that employs about 100 people: researchers, teachers, technical/administrative staff, and Ph.D. candidates. The department has a large PhD programme and co-ordinates three international Master programmes. The Department has a well established reputation for wide-ranging research with an emphasis on long-term processes, and with economic theory and quantitative methods as important methodological tools. Strong research areas at the department include economic growth and structural change, innovation, energy and sustainability, development economics, and economic demography, as well as financial history and education and the labour market. Lund University announces a position as substitute lecturer (adjunct) in Economic History. The position is for six months, starting 18st of August 2025 at the department of Economic History, Lund University School of Economics and Management. The employment is 40 percent of full time. 

Subject area and duties 

The subject area is Economic History specializing in economic demography. 

The position consists of teaching and administrative tasks can also be included. Teaching can be at the undergraduate and graduate level and will have an emphasis on economic demography and Swedish economic history. Teaching at the Lund University School of social work can also be included in the position. The teaching will be held in both Swedish and English. 

Eligibility   

To be employed the applicant must have both pedagogical skills, a degree at the advanced level or the equivalent and has other skills that are important with regard to the subject of  economic history and other tasks included in the employment. 

Requirements

Very good oral and written proficiency in English and Swedish

Completed at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education or equivalent knowledge.

Assessment criteria 

The assessment criteria for appointment as a lecturer shall be the degree of the expertise required as a qualification for employment.

For appointments to lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • Good subject knowledge of relevance to the post and the dutiesthat it will involve
  • Good teaching ability including a good ability to develop andpursue educational activities on different levels and using avariety of teaching methods
  • Very good professional experience or other experience ofrelevance to the post.

The School of Economics and Management aims at a balance between research and teaching. Equalimportance will therefore be given to scholarly and pedagogical skills when assessing the applicants.Administrative competence is also taken into account.

In the overall assessment of scholarly skills special weight will be given to applicant with a doctorate ineconomic history, publications in peer-reviewed journals and in publishing houses with an internationalpeer-review system. Special weight will also be given to experience from national and international collaboration andparticipation in research networks. Moreover, the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society andto inform about research will be assessed.

Pedagogical qualifications include training in teaching and learning in higher education, pedagogicalexperience and pedagogical skills. Experience of teaching and course development in Swedish  Economic History, with a focus on economic demography is a merit.

Consideration will be given to how the applicant's skills and experience can strengthen and supplement the existing research and teaching activities within the Department.
