Lund University, LTH,

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The department of Building and Environmental Technology at LTH, Lund University, is recruiting a Senior Lecturer in Building Physics.

The Division of Building Physics has long conducted nationally and internationally leading research and teaching across the full breadth of building physics. This includes, among other things, the distribution and transport of heat, moisture, and air through building components and within buildings. The research findings are used to develop and assemble individual materials into building components such as foundations, external walls, windows, roofs, and the junctions between these in various types of buildings. The aim is to create energy-efficient and moisture-safe buildings with a good indoor environment, long service life, and low environmental impact, resulting in the efficient use of the Earth’s resources.

Our research is carried out both within large international projects involving many collaborative partners and in national projects with strong ties to industry. Within LTH, we are active in several centres and profile areas.

The Division of Building Physics is one of nine divisions within the Department of Building and Environmental Technology. The division currently has around 15 staff members. Our premises are located in the V Building on the LTH campus in Lund.

Subject

Building Physics.

Subject description

The subject encompasses several aspects of building physics, primarily with applications to building components and entire buildings. Central elements include understanding the relationships between theoretical and applied processes and problem-solving in areas such as heat balances, energy transport, air and moisture transfer through building elements, critical moisture levels in the building envelope and its components, boundary conditions, and measurement techniques within the field of building physics. The research involves leading the development of newly produced building components, building systems, and entire buildings, as well as the renovation of existing buildings to ensure a good indoor environment while also being sustainable and resilient to the effects of climate change, having a low climate impact, and minimizing energy demand through both passive and active methods. To create sustainable solutions from a holistic perspective—particularly in light of climate change—factors such as reuse and circularity are included, and collaboration with other research fields is an integral part of the work.

Work duties

Work duties include:

  • Research within the subject area, which also includes active participation in the development of the division’s research activities.
  • Teaching in the first, second and third cycles of studies.
  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students.
  • Actively seeking external research funding.
  • Collaboration with industry and wider society.
  • Contribute to relevant centres and profile areas in which the division is involved.
  • Participate in various national and international contexts that contribute to an ongoing dialogue with both the academic community and society at large.
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualification requirements

Appointment to senior lecturer requires that the applicant has:

  • A PhD or corresponding research competence or professional expertise considered important with regard to the subject matter of the post and the work duties it will involve.
  • Demonstrated teaching expertise.
  • Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means, unless there are valid reasons.

Assessment criteria

When assessing the applicants, special importance will be given to research and teaching expertise within the subject, assessing research and teaching expertise equally.

The assessment criteria specify the aspects to be taken into account, and the level to be achieved, in order for the assessment criteria to be deemed fulfilled. The following assessment criteria must be fulfilled for appointment to senior lecturer:

  • A good national and international standing as a researcher. The requirement for international experience shall be assessed with consideration to the character and traditions of the subject.
  • Good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
  • An ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD.
  • An ability to collaborate with wider society and communicate his or her activities.
  • A general ability to lead and develop activities.

Additional requirements

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Ability to communicate in Swedish, both orally and in writing, as applied to teaching and research within the subject in a Swedish context.
  • Documented experience and ability to obtain substantial external research funding in competitive contexts.
  • Collaborative skills, initiative and the ability to solve work tasks independently.

Other qualifications

Significant documented research experience (e.g. from postdoc or doctoral studies) from another university/institute or relevant experience from industry/public sector.

  • Documented experience in applying for research funding from the EU and/or experience of active participation in EU projects or other major international research projects.
  • Experience of collaboration with industry and society.

The extent to which the applicant, through their experience and skills, may complement and strengthen ongoing research, undergraduate education, departmental innovation, and how they can contribute to the future development of the department will also be taken into consideration.
