Job Description
We are seeking an early-career researcher (with a completed PhD or equivalent qualifications obtained no more than five years prior to the application deadline) for a sub-study within the project Livability at the Intersection of Religion, Gender, and Sexuality. This ethnographic study, funded by Forte, explores religious and social barriers faced by LGBTQ+ individuals within various religious communities, including Muslim, Jewish, Sámi, and Catholic groups in Sweden.
The research questions address both the religious and social barriers encountered by LGBTQ+ individuals of faith, and the sub-study explores the creation of alternative cultures within postcolonial contexts. We are looking for a researcher with a strong foundation in post/decolonial and feminist theory, and with knowledge of alternative cultures that have emerged because of experiences of marginalization in postcolonial settings.
The researcher is expected to, together with other project participants, conduct research within the project, plan and coordinate collaborations and events, and contribute to research communication.
Qualifications
To be eligible for the position, the applicant must hold a PhD in Gender Studies, or have a scheduled dissertation date, as the position cannot commence before the PhD is completed.
Assessment will be based on scientific merit and the ability to develop and conduct high-quality research relevant to the position. The applicant must demonstrate academic excellence through publications, date of dissertation and documented teaching experience supported by certificates.
Required qualifications:
Strong knowledge of postcolonial, decolonial and feminist theory. Documented experience in ethnographic fieldwork. Documented experience in research on alternative cultures and experiences of marginalization in postcolonial contexts. Documented experience in coordinating workshops or symposia, as well as in research communication within Gender Studies. Documented teaching experience in Gender Studies.
As the research environment is small, personal suitability is highly valued.
Application
Applications may be submitted in Swedish or English and must include the following:
A cover letter describing the applicant’s interest in the position and highlighting relevant experience and skills (max 2 pages). A CV including a list of publications. Publications (max 3). For co-authored works, specification of each author’s contribution must be included. Copies of degree certificates and other relevant documentation. Contact information for two (2) referees.
Applications missing any of the above components will not be considered.
Terms of Employment
The position is 80% full-time and limited to 6 months. Start date: August 15, 2025, or as agreed.
