Description of the workplace
The research group conducts research in the field of diabetes, particularly insulin secretion, metabolism, and stem cells. For several years, the research has been at the forefront of the field, with many significant publications in internationally high-ranking journals. The group is led by Professor Hindrik Mulder and Associate Professor Malin Fex and consists of research and technical staff. The operations are located at CRC in Malmö. Work duties and areas of responsibility
The work includes culture clonal b-cells, perform experiments on isolated human and rodent islets,perform insulin secretion assays, analyses of mitochondrial function of b-cells (e.g Seahorse – oxidative consumption rate), confocal microscopy measurements of ATP/ADP and Ca2+, perform analyses related to autophagy, unfolded protein responses and ER stress, experience with animal (mouse) models and stem cell differentitaion to insulin secreting cells.

Qualifications
The requirements for the position are:

  • Ph.D. in diabetes-related research with a background in beta cell biology.
  • Background in beta-cell biology and diabetes research.
  • Skills in cell culturing of clonal beta-cell and primary (human and rodent) islets.
  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience in stem cell differentiation to insulin secreting cells.
  • Experience in working with animal (mouse) models.
  • Published articles in scientific journals.
  • Presented research at national and international scientific conferences.
  • Great importance will be placed on personal qualities. We are looking for someone who is committed, proactive, and has a good ability to work independently as well as in a team.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Measure insulin and other hormones from insulin and stem cells.
  • Operates the Seahorse XF analyzer.
  • Can perform western blotting, quantitative PCR and knock down techniques.
  • Can culture islets and clonal cells.

Other
The position is time limited to 6 months (SÄVA) starting on October 1st 2025, or according to agreement (100 %).
