Description of the workplace
The research group, led by Associate Professor Charlotte Rolny, conducts experimental and translational research on solid tumors. The team currently includes a PhD student, three postdoctoral researchers, and a research engineer. We are part of the Lund University Cancer Centre at Medicon Village and belong to the Division of Translational Cancer Research within the Department of Laboratory Medicine.
We are now seeking a highly motivated project research assistant with expertise in tumor biology discover new therapeutic targets for reprogramming tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs). TAMs are highly plastic immune cells that exist along a functional spectrum—from anti-tumor/immunostimulatory (M1-like) to pro-tumor/immunosuppressive (M2-like) phenotypes Over the years, Dr. Rolny and her team have shown that reprogramming TAMs from a pro-tumorigenic to an anti-tumorigenic state is a promising therapeutic strategy. Recently, the group has identified a novel signaling pathway that governs TAM pro-tumoral functions, opening exciting avenues for targeted intervention. This research endeavor will encompass cutting-edge molecular biology techniques, animal tumor models, and patient samples. It is preferable that the applicant has a background in tumor biology. Because of the scope of the project, knowledge and experience in animal work, flow cytometry analysis and confocal microscopy imaging is strongly desired.
