Description of the workplace

Our group is well known within the field of acoustofluidics and fundamental experimental studies on ultrasonic resonances in microchannel to reveal how acoustic streaming and the acoustic radiation force can be utilised to manipulate microscale objects, cells and nanoparticles. Based on acoustofluidic principles we develop medical applications such as isolation of circulating tumorcells from cancer patient derived blood samples, or enrichment and biomarker analysis of extracellular vesicles in blood samples.

Work duties

The work tasks are primarily to assist the research group in their research work, and there will also be some teaching and supervision. 

Description of the work duties:

  • to support/assist the research group, research within the subject area
  • teaching in the first, second and third cycles of studies (max 20%)
  • supervision of degree projects
  • assist in seeking external research funding
  • collaboration with industry and society at large
  • administration related to the work duties listed above

Qualifications

Appointment to a position as a researcher requires that the applicant has a PhD. 

Required qualifications:

  • a PhD  within within the field of microscale acoustofluidics
  • postdoctoral experience within the field of microchip based acoustofluidics
  • documented experience of COMSOL-modelling within fluid mechanics, acoustofluidics and microfluidics
  • documented experience of acoustofluidic based handling and separation of human blood
  • documented experience of clinical chemistry blood diagnostics
  • very good oral and written proficiency in English

Additional requirements:

  • experience of acoustofluidic based separation of blood from animal experiments
  • experience of 3D-design in Fusion 360 and 3D-manufacturing of microfluidic systems
  • experience of statsitical assessment of clinical chemistry data 
  • experience of quality assessment of blood components, blood cells and blood plasma

Further information

The position is a fixed term position for 12 months, starting at 2026-01-15 or as agreed, at 100 per cent of full time. 

The position is not a teaching appointment and is covered by the Flexitime Agreement for technical and administrative staff. A researcher who wishes to become a university teacher may apply for a position as Associate Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in competition.
