Description of the workplace

The research group, led by Associate Professor Catharina Hagerling, conducts translational cancer research focusing on metastatic cancer in children and adults. The group currently consists of a bioinformatician, a clinical pathologist, and three PhD students. We are part of Lund University’s Cancer Center at BMC and belong to the Department of Laboratory Medicine.

Project description

We are now looking for a motivated and committed postdoc for the project “The Non-Random Metastatic Behavior of Neuroblastoma Hide Potential Therapeutic Targets”, who will also contribute to the group’s other research projects. The project is funded in part by the Swedish Childhood Cancer Fundation and aims to identify therapeutic targets on metastases and functionally validate them using CRISPR-based studies and experimental models. Tasks and responsibilities

At Lund University, a postdoctoral position shall provide the opportunity for scientific and pedagogical merit. There is primarily scope for merit in research, but also for some higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may also be included in the duties.

Main duties include:

  • Responsible for experimental in vivo and in vitro work, including data collection, analysis, and compilation of results.
  • Additional duties may arise within the scope of the position, depending on the project’s needs and development.
  • Actively participate in seminars and other relevant meetings, and present the project according to the study plan.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • Doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree in medical, biomedical, biological sciences or similar, with a focus on tumor biology. The doctoral degree must have been obtained no later than the date on which the appointment decision is made.
  • Strong ability to develop and conduct high-quality research.
  • Teaching ability.
  • Documented and solid experience working with mouse models, including injections, tumor monitoring, and tissue harvesting.
  • Experience in wet lab work, including cell culture and CRISPR.
  • Good analytical and collaborative skills.
  • Good ability to present research orally and in writing.

Meritorious for the position are:

  • Priority will be given to applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline.
  • Experience with FACS (Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorting).
  • Experience with orthotopic surgery.
  • Experience with single-cell sequencing and bioinformatics.
  • Background in tumor biology.
  • Experience in supervising PhD students and/or undergraduate students.

The assessment of applicants will be based primarily on their scientific merit and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific ability within the subject area.

About the employment

The position is a fixed-term position of two years, 100% with start date on 1 of November or as agreed. Employment at Lund University is conducted in Sweden, you are therefore expected to be able to perform your work on site in Lund

The employment is limited to a minimum of two years, maximum three years, according to the collective agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoctoral researcher (the Swedish Employers' Association). A postdoctoral position is intended as an initial step in a career and as an opportunity to further deepen and broaden research expertise.
