Description of the Workplace
The research group, located at BMC on Sölvegatan 19 in Lund, within the Department of Neurology (Laboratory for Stem Cells and Restorative Neurology), is now seeking a Research Engineer. The group’s primary scientific focus is to investigate how spontaneous regeneration can be supported to improve functional recovery after ischemic stroke through transplantation of stem cells and reprogrammed cell-derived neurons and monocytes. The research group is now looking for a research engineer with the experience and knowledge to independently perform experimental work related to human cell reprogramming, as well as conduct both in vitro and in vivo work in animal models of stroke and multiple sclerosis.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities will include completing ongoing projects initiated within the research group that require additional experimental work to generate scientific data. We are therefore seeking someone to take on the following tasks:

Conduct immunocytochemical analysis of secondary lesions in the thalamus after cortical stroke and assess the properties of oligodendrocytes generated from human skin cells. Work with microfluidic systems currently under development for modeling stroke in human organotypic culture systems.

Other related tasks may also be included.

Qualifications
Necessary qualifications for the job:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Biology or Biomedical Sciences
  • Ability for creative thinking
  • High work capacity
  • Good collaboration skills

Meritorious are:

  • Knowledge in neuroscience and immunology
  • Sufficient training in molecular and cell biology to carry out the planned experiments
  • Practical skills in generating neurons (cortical neurons and oligodendrocytes) through viral transfection, working with stem and other cell cultures, performing gene expression experiments, and immunocytochemistry. Experience with animal models of neurodegenerative diseases.

Other information
The position is a fixed-term employment according to the Special Fixed-term Employment (SÄVA) regulations §5 p1 LAS, and it is full-time. The desired start date is 2025-11-01 or as agreed upon, with an end date of 2025-12-31.
