Description of the workplace

The research conducted at the Division of Integrated Electronic Systems, IES, within the Department of Electrical and Information Technology, EIT, is a balanced initiative that combines system and circuit design. We design integrated circuits (chips) using advanced nanometer CMOS technologies, including digital signal processors, radio frequency and millimeter-wave front-ends, data converters, as well as larger systems that combine analog and digital signals.

At IES, we are co-hosts of the research center ClassIC for semiconductor system design, funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF).

The goal is to achieve high energy efficiency in accordance with the latest 6G communication standards. Advanced process technologies will be used to realize the intended circuits, which will later be verified and characterized in a laboratory environment using state-of-the-art measurement instruments.

Description of the work duties:

  • Research within the subject area, as described above.
  • Publication of the results at/in renowned conferences and journals relevant to the field.
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualification requirements

Required qualifications:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Excellent skills for working with integrated circuit design, simulation and layout tools, including parasitic extractions and EM simulations tools.
  • Tape-out experience in advanced CMOS and/or FDSOI process technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and achieve the defined goals of the project.
  • Collaboration skills to be able to work in a team.

The duties require you to comply with US export restrictions (EAR), (bis.gov/regulations/ear).

Additional requirements:

  • Knowledge about state-of-the-art wireless communications requirements standards, i.e. 5G and beyond.
  • Knowledge and experience about transmitter and power amplifier architectures.
  • Experience with theoretical and practical aspects of discrete and integrated circuits, including system design for wireless connectivity.
  • Experience with measurement techniques and instruments for evaluation of integrated circuits.
  • Prior experience in millimeter wave circuit design.
