Lund University, 009999 Lund University, 100000 LTH

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

Description of the workplace.
The positions are placed at the Division of Solid State Physics at the Department of Physics, where extensive research is carried out centred on various aspects of nanophysics, ranging from materials science to bio- and quantum physics to various applications. The Division is a central part of NanoLund, Lund University's large interdisciplinary research centre on nanoscience and nanotechnology. The Division includes Lund Nano Lab, a central and shared facility to produce materials and components at the nanoscale. The Division has a strong commitment to undergraduate education, not least in the Master's programme "Engineering Nanoscience" at LTH.

The research group of Prof. Heiner Linke uses experimental and numerical methods to study phenomena in diverse systems such as semiconductor nanostructures, biomolecular systems and fluids including artificial bio-molecular motors based on DNA and proteins.

The teaching assistant positions are in collaboration with Dr. Amijai Saragovi. The Saragovi research group develops next-generation protein design strategies for sustainability, nanotechnology, and hybrid biomaterials. A key focus is the creation of protein–silica hybrid materials, designed through computational modeling and validated in experimental systems. These materials have the potential to open new frontiers in bioelectronics, environmental applications, and advanced materials science.

Work duties
As a teaching assistant, your duties may vary and should provide insight into the academic world at the faculty where you are studying.

Responsibilities in these four positions include:

  • running and adapting state-of-the-art protein design models.
  • writing and applying Python scripts for workflow automation and data filtering.
  • contributing to computational design challenges involving proteins, small molecules, and ions.
  • working towards the design of protein–silica hybrid materials as part of collaborative lab projects.

Qualification requirements
Only those admitted to first or second-cycle courses and study programmes at the faculty may be employed as teaching assistants. The MSc degree must not have been awarded yet.

Required qualifications:

  • admitted to relevant first or second-cycle courses in engineering, computer science, biotechnology, or related field.
  • experience with Python programming.
  • very good oral and written proficiency in English

Additional requirements:

  • strong logical problem-solving skills and ability to think systematically about complex design problems.
  • previous experience in a biochemistry or molecular biology lab is an advantage.

We offer
Lund University is a public authority which means that employees get particular benefits, generous annual leave and an advantageous occupational pension scheme. With an employment as a teaching assistant you can combine studies with work and complement your theoretical knowledge with practical work experience.

The Saragovi lab offers:

  • practical training in cutting-edge protein design and computational methods.
  • hands-on experience with automation and workflow development.
  • opportunities to contribute to high-impact research at the interface of protein design and materials science.
  • a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
