Description of the Workplace

The Department of Economic History is research-intensive and employs approximately 70 individuals, including researchers, teachers, technical and administrative staff, and doctoral students. The department offers extensive doctoral education and coordinates two international Master's programmes as well as one Bachelor's programme. It has an established reputation for its broad research focus on long-term processes, where economic theory and quantitative methods serve as central tools. Particularly strong research areas include economic growth and structural change, innovation, energy and sustainability, development economics, economic demography, financial history, and education and labour markets. Lund University announces a position as researcher in Economic History. The short-time position starting November 24, 2025 at the Department of Economic History, Lund University School of Economics and Management. The employment is 100 percent of full time during 3 months, until February 23, 2026.

 

Subject area and duties

The subject area is Economic History.

The position consists of research. The researcher will work in the research environment Socioeconomic Segregation funded by Vetenskapsrådet (PI Martin Dribe).

Requirements

To be employed the applicant must have a PhD in Economic History. The applicant must also hold research expertise in the area of economic demography and neighborhood studies. 

Assessment criteria

In the overall assessment of scholarly skills special weight will be given to publications in peer-reviewed journals and in publishing houses with an international peer-review system. Publications in the research fields of the project is a merit. Experience with Swedish historical longitudinal population data at the individual level, national register data, statistical modeling, and management of complex individual-level databases is required as well as advanced skills in R-programming.

Consideration will be given to how the applicant's skills and experience can strengthen and supplement the existing research activities within the Department.
