Working place

Department of Immunotechnology with research ranging from advanced technology development to biomedical research. Main research areas include immuno-oncology, sensitization and biomarkers. Advanced technologies are used within the department, including genomics and transcriptomics, phage display-based antibody development, large-scale mass spectrometry-based proteomics, and associated bioinformatics. The department is also responsible for student courses, and we offer high quality education at undergraduate and graduate level. The department employs about 35 people.

The department is in a development phase and is seeking a research engineer for a position that includes both laboratory and administrative tasks. The role involves close collaboration with the department’s researchers, technical staff, and administrative functions, and requires both practical flexibility and strong coordination skills in a dynamic environment. Some of the laboratory tasks will consist of providing support in projects with temporary needs for extra staff, which requires a broad repertoire of molecular biology knowledge.

Work duties 

As a Research Engineer, you will:

  • Support research groups with laboratory work when needed, e.g., phage display selection, immunochemical analysis techniques, and molecular biology work.
  • Inventory needs for service and maintenance of experimental equipment and coordinate such efforts.
  • Coordinate contacts with external stakeholders such as collaborators, suppliers, and funding bodies.
  • Act as a work environment coordinator, including risk assessments, inventory and follow-up of systematic work environment management (SAM), safety inspections, chemical management (via KLARA), and biosafety in accordance with Lund University’s work environment policy.
  • Participate in documentation, reporting, and preparation of instructions and action plans for laboratory work.
  • Contribute to teaching and the introduction of new employees and students, especially regarding laboratory and safety procedures. 

Qualifications  

Required qualifications for the position are:

  •  PhD degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in biotechnology, cell, or molecular biology. Practical experience with phage display selection.
  • Practical experience with immunochemical analysis techniques.
  • Practical experience with molecular biology work.
  • Practical experience with project management.
  • Documented experience in writing and producing various types of texts (e.g., instructions, action plans).
  • Good knowledge of chemical handling, risk assessment, and laboratory-based safety.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Experience in work environment coordination or similar safety responsibilities.
  • Experience with flow cytometry (e.g., iQue) and cell culture.
  • Experience with O-sys or similar ordering systems.
  • Experience in antibody binding characterization.
  • Experience in teaching, supervision, and introduction of staff/students.
  • Experience working in projects with external customers. Familiarity with external collaborations or project management in an academic environment.
