We are now seeking two full-time researchers for one year to contribute to the formas funded IDLE project (Investigating Doing Less in Everyday Life).

Work duties

The project explores the roles of idleness and reduced working time as responses to sustainability challenges. The positions involve fieldwork in Finland, Sweden, and the Netherlands, collaborating on qualitative, ethnographic research and data analysis.

Duties include:

  • Planning and conducting field studies and interviews in Sweden, Finland, and/or the Netherlands.
  • Data generation including field observations and interviews.
  • Analysis using qualitative social science methods.
  • Active participation in project workshops, meetings and public engagement activities. 

Qualification requirements

Required qualifications:

  •  PhD or equivalent documented research expertise in interdisciplinary environmental social science, or similar.
  • Proven experience in qualitative research as well as a detailed plan to conduct fieldwork in Sweden, Finland or The Netherlands.
  • Track record in sustainability, degrowth, postwork, social movements, or similar.
  • Excellent English language skills.

Additional requirements:

  • Knowledge of Swedish, Finnish or Dutch.

Terms of employment

The positions are fixed-term employment for 1 year, full time. Starting date as soon as possible by agreement.
