Description of the workplace

The Planetary Health Research Group explores the intricate connections between human health and the health of our planet, emphasizing that the well-being of societies depends on thriving natural systems and the responsible management of our resources. As we witness unprecedented degradation of ecosystems, both humanity and the planet face severe risks.

Our team is dedicated to tackling the challenges at the intersection of environment, climate change, and public health—covering issues such as the air we breathe, urban heat islands, noise exposure, and other environmental factors that impact health. At the same time, we also highlight the positive contributions of healthy environments, such as access to green spaces.

Work duties and areas of responsibility

This position involves conducting fieldwork in Ecuador to measure air pollution caused by gas flaring in collaboration with local communities. You will also play a key role in training community members in measurement techniques and data management. Data collection and analysis will be an integral part of the assignment.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a field related to air pollution

  • Proven expertise in measuring air pollution

  • A strong publication record with scientific articles on air pollution

  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish

  • Fluency in spoken and written English

  • Solid understanding of Swedish

Additional qualifications for the position are

  • Previous experience with fieldwork in the Global South, especially with vulnerable populations

  • Experience in interdisciplinary collaborations between technology and health

Further information

You should be available to start immediately upon agreement. The role requires travel to Ecuador and participation in a minimum three-week field study.

This is a full-time (100%) fixed-term position for three months, starting 15 October 2025 or by agreement.
