Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

Description of the workplace

Our research group is well recognized within the acoustofluidics field and our fundamental experimental studies on acoustic forces acting on microparticles in microchannels. The research is closely linked to the research at the medical faculty within both biomedical research and clinical needs, with the goal to develop new technology to sort, manipulate and analyse cells and extracellular vesicles. The research is performed in laboratories both at the Engineering faculty and at the Biomedical Centre at Lund University.

Subject description

The position encompass research and development within the field of biomedical engineering with an emphasis on acoustofluidics, liquid chromatography and nanoparticle manipulation. Special focus will be put on the development of microfluidic systems based on acoustofluidic chromatography and enrichment (trapping) of submicron particles, especially biological nanoparticles such as extracellular vesicles.

Work duties

The main duties involved in a post-doctoral position is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position includes the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning. The purpose of the position is to develop the independence as a researcher and to create the opportunity of further development.

The research will encompass the development of liquid chromatographic methods in combination with acoustic fields for enrichment and separation of extracellular vesicles.

Detailed description of the work duties:

  • Research within acoustofluidics and liquid chromatography
  • Publication of research results in well-respected scientific journals
  • Presentation of research results at international conferences.
  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students
  • Actively seeking research funding
  • Collaboration with industry and wider society
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above

Qualification requirements

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. The certificate proving the qualification requirement is met, must be received before the employment decision is made. Priority will be given to candidates who have graduated no more than three years ago before the last day for application. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Additional requirements:

  • Experience in analytical methods based on liquid chromatography
  • Good knowledge of fundamental principles of liquid chromatography
  • Experience in surface modification of chromatographic matrices
  • Experience in bioanalytical methods for protein analysis
  • Experience in analyzing nanoparticles and/or extracellular vesicles
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Pedagogic and communication skills

Assessment criteria

This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.

For appointments to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research.
  • Teaching skills.

Other qualifications:

  • Experience within acoustofluidics
  • Experience in lab-on-a-chip technology
  • Experience of design and manufacturing of acoustofluidic systems
  • Experience of acoustic and fluid mechanic modelling of particle trajectories in acoustically actuated microfluidic systems.
  • Experience of acoustic enrichment/trapping of nanoparticles or extracellular vesicles
  • Experience in analysing nanoparticles and/or extracellularvesicles
  • Teaching experience

Consideration will also be given to how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
