Lund University, Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Division of Mathematics, Faculty of Science

We are looking for employees to join an Erasmus+ funded project for developing teaching materials in mathematics education with programming and computation.

Description of the workplace
The Centre for Mathematical Sciences has approximately 150 employees, of which about 40 are in the Division of Mathematics, Faculty of Science (NF) where the position is located. Other departments are Mathematics LTH with numerical analysis and Mathematical statistics. The Division of Mathematics NF has the overall responsibility for the natural science bachelor's and master's programmes in mathematics and provides courses in mathematics and numerical analysis that are also available as electives in other programmes at the Faculty of Science and that can be studied as independent courses.

Job assignments
As an employee in the project, you will contribute to the development of teaching materials for mathematics education with programming, computation, and interactive digital tools. The tasks include, among other things:

  • developing and testing tutorials, exercises, and projects that combine mathematics and programming.
  • providing feedback on the pedagogical design of materials from a student perspective.
  • implementing examples and solutions in programming languages (e.g., Python).
  • learning and applying new technologies for interactive web-based tutorials (e.g., Jupyter Notebook).
  • experimenting with and evaluating tools that link teaching materials to large language models (LLMs).
  • collaborating with teachers and researchers in the project, as well as with international partner universities.

Qualifications
Requirements for the position are:

  • a bachelor's degree in mathematics with specialization in numerical analysis, computer science or equivalent.
  • completed courses in mathematics at the university level (at least two semesters of full-time studies or equivalent).
  • good knowledge of spoken and written Swedish and written English.
  • good communication skills and the ability to work independently.

 Additional qualifications are:

  • experience in teaching, tutoring, or the development of educational materials.
  • own experience of using AI tools in mathematics studies.
  • participation in conferences, workshops, or project work related to programming and AI in mathematics education.
  • experience of international collaboration.
  • completed first year courses in mathematics in the study program for mathematics at the Faculty of Science at Lund university.
  • ongoing studies at the master level in areas that connect AI, mathematics, programming or machine learning.

Terms of employment
The employment is a temporary position as a special fixed-term employee (SÄVA) in accordance with the Employment Protection Act (LAS).
Scope: 20% per employee.

Period: Start date 2025-12-01 or as soon as possible thereafter until 2026-05-31.
