About the education

The doctoral education in Literature is well established and placed within a comprehensive and multifaceted research environment. Scholarly research is currently conducted in the following areas:

  • literature in society
  • literature and nature
  • life writing
  • children's and young adult literature
  • the lyrical text
  • medical humanities
  • literature in early modern times
  • world literature
  • Scandinavian literature.

Since 2025, the department also conducts research in literary education where research is currently conducted in the following areas:

  • reading inside and outside of school
  • the learning potential of fictional stories
  • fictional stories in various aesthetic and media forms.

The education is carried out in Lund.

Work assignments

Doctoral studies. Departmental work, such as teaching and administrative tasks, can be assigned. The maximum amount of such work is 20 %.

Please note that for doctoral studies in Literature, good proficiency in Swedish is required.

Assessment criteria

The selection process will primarily take into account the applicants’ ability to benefit from doctoral studies. This is assessed against the criteria quality, quantity, progression and relevance.
