The Department of Economic History is a research-intensive department that employs about 70 people: researchers, teachers, technical/administrative staff, and Ph.D. candidates. The department has a large PhD programme and co-ordinates two international Master programmes. The Department has a well established reputation for wide-ranging research with an emphasis on long-term processes, and with economic theory and quantitative methods as important methodological tools. Strong research areas at the department include economic growth and structural change, innovation, energy and sustainability, development economics, and economic demography, as well as financial history and education and the labour market. Lund University announces a position as substitute lecturer (adjunct) in Economic History. The position is for ten months, starting 23 of February 2026 at the department of Economic History, Lund University School of Economics and Management. The employment is 50 percent of full time.
Subject area and duties
The subject area is economic history with a focus on energy transitions and environmental history.
The position consists primarily of teaching, and administrative duties may also be included. Teaching may take place at both undergraduate and advanced levels and will focus on sustainable development, climate crises, and energy transitions from a long-term environmental and economic-historical perspective. Teaching at Lund University as well as Copenhagen Business School may also be included in the position. Instruction will be conducted in both Swedish and English.
Qualifications
Eligibility
Eligibility requires demonstrated pedagogical competence, as well as a degree at the advanced level or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way, and other qualifications of relevance to the subject of economic history and the duties included in the position.
Requirements
Very good proficiency in spoken and written English and Swedish is required.
Completed higher education pedagogy training equivalent to at least five weeks or corresponding knowledge.

Assessment Criteria
For appointment as a university lecturer, the level of competence required for eligibility shall apply as assessment criteria. The following assessment criteria will be used:
The School of Economics strives to maintain a balance between research and education in all appointments. Therefore, equal weight will be given to scholarly and pedagogical competence in the evaluation of applicants. Administrative skills will also be taken into consideration.
In the overall assessment of scholarly competence, a doctoral degree in economic history and publication in journals or with academic publishers using international peer-review systems are considered strong merits, as is experience of national and international collaboration and participation in research networks. Furthermore, the ability to engage with society at large and to communicate research findings will be taken into account.
In the overall assessment of pedagogical qualifications, higher education pedagogy training, teaching experience, and pedagogical skills are included. Experience in teaching and course development within economic history with a focus on sustainable development, climate crises, and energy transitions from a long-term environmental and economic-historical perspective is considered a merit.
Consideration will also be given to how the applicant’s experience and competence may complement and strengthen education and research at the department.
