Description of the workplace

The position is located at the Faculty of Medicine, Biomedical Center (BMC), Lund University. The research group is based at BMC, building C13, Sölvegatan 19 in Lund. We work in an international and interdisciplinary research environment focusing on microbiology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. The group consists of researchers, doctoral students, and students. As a student employee, you will be part of the laboratory activities and work closely with researchers and doctoral students.

Work duties 

As a student employee, your tasks may vary, but they must always have a clear connection to your studies.

The tasks in this position will for example include:

  • Work with cloning and plasmid handling,
  • Carry out anaerobic experiments
  • Develop high-quality DNA extraction protocols from skin and gut microbiomes
  • Cultivate and manage microbial cultures
  • Contribute to general laboratory routines and support the group’s research activities

Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a student employee, you must be enrolled in full-time studies at the university level in Sweden, have completed approved studies equivalent to at least 60 credits, and not have begun doctoral studies.

Requirements for the position is that you:

  • Are currently enrolled in full-time studies in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biology, Biomedicine, or equivalent education that the employer deems relevant,
  • Have basic knowledge in molecular biology and microbiology,
  • Have laboratory experience with PCR, bacterial cultures, plasmid work, and sterile techniques,
  • Are accurate, responsible, and able to collaborate well,
  • Have good command of English, spoken and written. 

Meritorious for the position is that you:

  • Have experience with molecular cloning and microbiome extraction protocol development,
  • Have previous experience from a research laboratory.

Further information

The position is a fixed-term position starting on 2026-02-20, or as agreed, but no longer than 2026-06-07 and refers to the scope of 20%.

You will work according to a fixed schedule to be agreed between you and your employer. Provisions regarding employment as a student employee can be found in the Agreement for Student Employees.
