Assistant Researcher to the Unit Clinical Memory Research

Description of workplace
At the research group Clinical Memory Research, Department of Clinical Sciences Malmö, we do cutting-edge research on biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, such as Lewy body dementia and Parkinson’s disease. The research, which has gained international recognition through the BioFINDER projects, has for several years been at the forefront in the field of fluid‑based biomarkers and brain imaging, enabling early and accurate detection, diagnosis, and prognosis of disease. The group is led by Professor Oskar Hansson and Deputy Group Leader Associate Professor Niklas Mattsson‑Carlgren and consists of research and technical/administrative staff. The workplace is located at the Biomedical Center (BMC) in Lund. We collaborate closely with the Memory Clinic at Skåne University Hospital in Malmö, where several of our researchers also work clinically. You can read more about our exciting research here

Work duties and responsibilities
As an Assistant Researcher you will work with the following work duties: Statistical data processing and analysis, production of scientific publications, presentation of results at meetings, seminars, and scientific conferences. Visual assessment of brain imaging (MRI, amyloid‑PET, tau‑PET), managing the group’s social media channels and participation in grant applications and report writing. Teaching and supervision of students may occur. 

Qualifications
Requirements for the position are:

• PhD degree or equivalent foreign degree in neuroscience or another related discipline.
  The PhD must be completed by the time the employment decision is made.
• Expertise in brain imaging, fluid biomarkers, neuropsychology, and statistical analysis/modeling.
• Expertise in visual evaluation of MRI, amyloid‑PET, and tau‑PET (e.g., for quality control, assessing amyloid and tau positivity, and established MRI rating scales for Alzheimer’s disease).
• Strong knowledge of or research experience in Alzheimer’s disease, alpha‑synuclein‑related diseases, aging, and cognition.
• Strong ability to develop and conduct high‑quality research, demonstrated by previous publications in high‑impact scientific journals.
• Strong communication skills in English, both oral and written.
• Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. The work tasks require that you are driven, meticulous, oriented to detail, and persistent.

Meritorious for the position are:

•  Successful applications for research funding.
• Pedagogical skills demonstrated through presentations at international conferences and/or supervision of students/staff.
• Familiarity with best practices in reproducibility and open science .

This is a permanent position, full time (100 %), with starting date 2026-03-01 or according to agreement.
