Duties and Responsibilities
At Lund University, a postdoctoral position is intended to provide opportunities for scientific and pedagogical development. The primary focus is on research merit, but some higher education pedagogical training may also be included. Teaching may form part of the duties.

The main responsibilities involve conducting research on novel roles of complement proteins such as C3 in metabolic diseases, particularly diabetes, and in immune system development and dysregulation. Extensive animal experimentation is included. Additional duties within the research group may include bioinformatic analysis of group-wide datasets (e.g., RNA sequencing, metabolomics), responsibility for advanced equipment (e.g., flow cytometry or microscopy), and introduction and training of new users of such equipment. The work may also involve supervision of students and presentation of research results at conferences. The work is experimental in nature and must be conducted on site, with no possibility for remote work.

Qualifications
Required qualifications:

  • PhD degree or equivalent foreign degree in life sciences. The doctoral degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and conduct high-quality research.
  • Teaching ability.
  • Solid knowledge of metabolism and immunology.
  • Strong expertise in bioinformatic data analysis: high-throughput data analysis using R and Python for preprocessing, statistical analysis, and interpretation; advanced analysis of large-scale single-cell and bulk omics data (transcriptomics and metabolomics); and multi-omics integration.
  • Experience working with laboratory animals (mice) and valid certification for this in Sweden.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • High motivation, with expectations of developing substantial independence and contributing creatively to the project. The position requires the ability to collaborate and work independently, along with relevant experience and skills to successfully carry out the project. • Experience with the following in vivo experimental studies: handling and breeding genetically modified mouse models, including diet-induced obesity models; metabolic phenotyping (OGTT, IPGTT, ITT, metabolic cages/indirect calorimetry); tissue collection; isolation of immune cells from tissues; sectioning and staining for histological analysis; measurement of plasma metabolites and hormones (ELISA, enzymatic assays); fecal sampling and microbiome profiling.
  • Experience with the following in vitro techniques: β-cell isolation and functional assays such as insulin secretion; cell viability and apoptosis assays; RNA extraction and reverse transcription (RT-PCR); RNA interference (RNAi); immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy with quantitative image analysis; flow cytometry; Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS); and protein expression analysis and quantification.
  •  Experience with advanced statistical analysis of experimental data and prior use of electronic lab notebooks for documentation.
  • Experience with Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA).

Assessment of applicants will primarily be based on scientific merit and research potential. Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific competence within the field.
