Description of the workplace

The Department of Electrical and Information Technology at Lund University, The Faculty of Engineering, LTH, is one of the larger departments with around 120 employees. The department consists of four divisions and a group of technical and administrative staff. The division of Electromagnetics and Nanoelectronics within the department is focused on research connected to semiconductor materials, devices and circuits, as well as electromagnetics.
The research has many international partners and connections to industry. We are now looking for a postdoctoral fellow interested in microwave quantum technology based on hybrid semiconductor-superconductor devices.

Subject description

The position is funded by a Wallenberg Proof of Concept Grant within the WACQT area. The project is development of a novel potentially quantum-limited microwave amplifier based on hybrid semiconductor-semiconductor structures.

Work duties

The main duties involved in a post-doctoral position is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position includes the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning. The purpose of the position is to develop the independence as a researcher and to create the opportunity of further development.

You will be working with cryogenic microwave measurements and characterization of hybrid superconducting-semiconducting systems, microwave amplifier design, as well as possible device fabrication. You will work together with the current team of two doctoral students.

Detailed description of the work duties, such as:

  • Cryogenic DC and Microwave measurements using dilution refrigerators.
  • Data analysis and interpretation of hybrid semiconductor-superconductor systems.
  • Design and implementation of hybrid microwave amplifiers.
  • Nanoscale device and circuit fabrication.
  • Teaching in the first, second and third cycles of studies.
  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students.
  • Work on seeking external research funding.
  • Collaboration with industry and wider society.
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualification requirements

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. The certificate proving the qualification requirement is met, must be received before the employment decision is made. Priority will be given to candidates who have graduated no more than three years ago before the last day for application. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Additional requirements:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Strong experimental background within semiconductor-superconductor systems or very low noise microwave amplifiers.

Assessment criteria

This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.

For appointments to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research.
  • Teaching skills.

Other qualifications:

  • Experiences with microwave measurements at cryogenic temperatures.
  • Knowledge of the physics of superconductor-semiconductor systems.
  • Experience in amplifier design at microwave frequences.
  • Experience with nanoscale fabrication related to electronic quantum technologies.

Consideration will also be given to how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

We offer

Lund University is a public authority which means that employees get particular benefits, generous annual leave and an advantageous occupational pension scheme. We offer access to state-of-the-art technology within measurements and nanoscale fabrication, as well as cooperation with a dynamic research team.
