Description of the workplace

The position is based at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies (ACE), one of the divisions within the Department of History, Faculties of Humanities and Theology. The Centre was founded in 1997 to promote and develop research and education in Sweden on contemporary East and South-East Asia; its rapidly transforming societies, economies, and political systems. ACE is an interdisciplinary hub actively building new collaborations with institutions and researchers in Asia and beyond.

Work duties and areas of responsibility

The main duties include responsibility for, teaching and examination in the courses Social Movements in East and South-East Asia (Second Cycle/MA-level) och Contemporary South-East Asia – Political Developments and Societal Issues (First Cycle/BA-level). Teaching is conducted in English.

In addition, some administrative tasks and coordination of various activities at ACE may be included. A small proportion of research-related tasks focusing on social sustainability in East and Southeast Asia may also form part of the position.

Qualifications

Requirements for employment are:

  • Completed second-cycle degree or acquired corresponding knowledge and has other skills of value in view of the subject matter of the position and the duties that it will involve.
  • Sufficient proficiency in a South-East Asian language to stay up to date with current issues relevant to the teaching focus of the position.
  • A good teaching ability and previous experience of teaching in higher education
  • Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means,
  • Excellent ability to communicate orally and in writing in English.
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to contribute to an inclusive academic environment.

Desired qualifications are:

  • Expertise and teaching experience in regional or area studies, preferably Asian studies.

Further information

The employment is a temporary position as lecturer at 45% from 1 August to 31 December 2026.
