Description of the workplace

In the subject of English, you will meet around thirty employees of varying ages from different parts of the world who work with English linguistics, English literary studies, English language proficiency, academic writing, English teacher education and English for specific purposes. We are a very active department in both research and pedagogical development, and we are keen that everyone enjoys the workplace and has the resources necessary to be able to do a good job.

Work duties and areas of responsibility

You will work within an existing research project and be responsible for preparation of research materials, online assistance with data collection, data processing, and research administration.

Qualifications

Requirements for employment are:

- You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in linguistics or psychology or similar subject

- Your research focus (i.e. dissertation topic) is language and cognition in a South African context

- You are fluent in English and Afrikaans

- You have basic knowledge of statistical software (e.g. Excel, SPSS, R Studio etc.)

- You have experience in data collection with South Africans

 

Additional qualifications for the position are:

- You have a master's degree or equivalent in linguistics or psychology or similar subject

- You have experience in applying for grants

- You work with a high degree of both independence and accuracy
