Description of the Research Group
The Unit of Molecular Metabolism conducts diabetes-related research and has for several years been at the forefront of the field, with multiple publications in highly ranked journals. The group is led by Professor Hindrik Mulder and Associate Professor (Docent) Malin Fex and consists of both research and technical staff. The group resides the Clinical Research Centre in Malmö.

Duties and Responsibilities
The position involves conducting diabetes-related research projects, requiring the candidate to independently: Plan, perform, and analyze advanced experimental studies in a laboratory setting. Establish and maintain cultures of various insulin-producing cell lines, isolate and culture primary pancreatic islets, and differentiate pluripotent stem cells into functional insulin-producing cells. Apply and further develop relevant molecular, cellular, and biochemical methods. Compile, interpret, and present research data, and write scientific articles for publication in international journals. Supervise students and junior researchers in laboratory work and contribute to a positive research environment through knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Qualifications
The position requires:

• A Ph.D. in medical research or a related field.
• Documented experience in pancreatic islet (beta-cell) research.
• Practical experience in culturing and differentiating stem cells into insulin-producing cells.
• Strong knowledge of molecular genetic methods, including experimental design and data analysis.
• A documented track record of scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
• Experience presenting research findings at national and international conferences.
• Good collaborative skills and the ability to work independently in a research environment.

Meritorious qualifications:

• Experience in analyzing cellular metabolism, for example using Seahorse XF technology.
• Practical experience with molecular biology techniques such as Western blotting, RNA sequencing, and PCR.
• Experience in culturing primary islet cells and establishing and handling clonal cell lines.
• Experience with immunohistochemistry and/or immunofluorescence staining, as well as confocal microscopy.

Other Information
This is a special fixed-term position (SÄVA) for 12 months, with a preliminary start date of August 1st 2026 or according to agreement. The position is full-time (100%).
