Associate Researcher in Medical Microbiology

Description of the workplace
At the division of Microbiology, Immunology and Glycobiology, Department of Laboratory Medicine, Professor Marianne Jansson heads a research team with the focus on HIV-1 and HIV-2 host interaction studies. By combining in vitro infection models with in vivo observations, and the use of both molecular and cellular virology methodologies the team seeks to understand pathogenic properties of HIV-1 and HIV-2, with the aim to identify novel targets for prevention and treatment. You can read more about the research on our website. We are now looking for a driven and experienced assistant researcher in medical microbiology to support the different research projects.

Work duties and areas of responsibility
The research assignment consists in

• Independently conducting research projects with a focus on HIV, under the leadership of the project manager. This means designing and carrying out experimental research, analyzing and compiling obtained results, and reporting research results in the form of scientific publications and presentations at scientific conferences.
• Theoretically and practically supervising group members, including Swedish and international students and postdocs. This means introduction and supervision of experimental HIV research in biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory.
• Together with the project manager, maintain and update risk assessments and handling instructions linked to the current experimental activity.

Qualifications
Requirements for employment are:

• PhD degree within the area of medical microbiology
• Experience in experimental HIV research in BSL-3 laboratory, including cell and molecular biology
• Good knowledge of safety regulations for work with human pathogens in BSL-3, which means ability to understand and apply authority regulations
• Experience of introduction and supervision of group members in experimental HIV research
• Experience in designing of viral quantitative assays, as well as sequencing technology and gene modifying tools, such as CRISPR-Cas.
• Experience with microarray analysis, as well as single-cell sequencing (Rhapsody).
• Good knowledge of statistical, bioinformatic (R-package) and phylogenetic tools
• Experience in independent project management
• Excellent written communication skills, Swedish and English, with the ability to analyze and compile scientific data in the form of publications and applications
• Emphasis will also be held at personal skills and suitability. The assignments require that you can work independently, take initiative, and collaborate effectively with other members of the research group and its collaborators

Further information
The employment is a full-time temporary according to SÄVA 3 months position, with the desired access date on August 1, 2026, or according to agreement.
