LUNARC is the centre for high-performance computing (HPC), visualisation, and storage at Lund University. We provide advanced computing and data services to researchers across all faculties of the university, including science, engineering, medicine, economics, humanities and social sciences. Across these fields, demand for GPU resources for AI has increased significantly in recent years.
We operate modern HPC clusters, visualisation resources and advanced storage systems, and continuously develop new services for interactive and data-driven research. Our environment includes both traditional HPC infrastructure and modern platforms for container-based and cloud-adjacent workflows.
We work closely with research environments such as MAX IV as well as national and international research infrastructures. LUNARC is also part of the national infrastructure NAISS (National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden).

Duties and responsibilities
We are now looking for a systems engineer who wants to help develop the next generation of high-performance research infrastructure for computing, visualisation, and storage.
This role suits someone with a strong background in Linux and infrastructure who enjoys working at the intersection of HPC, DevOps, and modern platform operations. You will combine operational work with development-focused tasks in close collaboration with the rest of the team. The role also involves working closely with researchers to help them make the best use of LUNARC’s resources.
The tasks range from operational support to the development of new services to close collaboration with researchers and users. The role includes both daily infrastructure operations and long-term development of LUNARC’s technical platforms. Examples of tasks include:
The work is carried out in close collaboration with researchers, developers and other infrastructure experts.
You do not need extensive prior experience with HPC, but you must have experience with Linux-based infrastructures, automation or modern platform operations, as well as a willingness to develop within HPC and research infrastructure.
Experience working within research infrastructure or academic environments. Consideration will also be given to how the applicant’s experience and expertise complement and strengthen the organisation's existing competence profile.
The position is permanent and full-time (100%). A probationary period may apply.
Start date according to the agreement.
