Work duties

At Lund University, a postdoctoral position should provide opportunities for scientific and pedagogical qualifications. Primarily, there is scope for qualifications in research, but also for some higher education pedagogy training. Teaching may also be part of the duties (max. 20%).

The research will be in algebraic topology, as part of the project “Local to global principles for topological quantum field theory” funded by the Swedish Research Council. The position shall include the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.

Detailed description of work duties:

  • research within the subject area;
  • teaching (max. 20%);
  • supervision of degree projects and doctoral students.

Qualifications

Requirements are:

  • a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within algebraic topology; the PhD must have been awarded when the appointment decision is made;
  • good ability to develop and conduct research of good quality;
  • good teaching skills;
  • you should also be motivated, have initiative, be able to work independently and in groups, and be perseverant;
  • very good spoken and written proficiency in English.

Meritorious are:

  • candidates with a PhD completed no more than three years before the application deadline;
  • a strong background in higher algebra and higher category theory;
  • previous working experience with moduli spaces.

The assessment of applicants will be based primarily on their scientific merit and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific ability within the subject area.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment

This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of up to 3 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoctoral fellow”). A postdoctoral position is intended as an initial step in a career and as an opportunity to further deepen and broaden research expertise.

The preferred start date of the position is the 1st of October 2026.
