Description of the workplace

The research group in Nutritional Epidemiology conducts research on the role of diet in health and disease, with a particular focus on dietary patterns and chronic diseases. The group is led by Associate Professor Emily Sonestedt and consists of a small, dynamic team of researchers. The workplace is located at the Clinical Research Centre (CRC) in Malmö.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be part of a research environment with strong expertise in epidemiology and quantitative methods. You will work closely with group members and collaborate with national and international research partners.

The position is linked to several collaborative projects. The majority of the work is connected to a large European research initiative on sustainable food systems. Another part of the work will be carried out in collaboration with the Center for Primary Health Care Research (CPF), with a focus on sustainable eating and the risk of micronutrient deficiencies among young populations.

Description of the project

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will work within the project Sustainable Food Systems, conducted in collaboration between Nutritional Epidemiology, the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science (MGeo), and the Center for Primary Health Care Research (CPF). The project has a strong nutritional epidemiology focus and includes analyses in several large population-based cohorts. Within these studies, detailed dietary data are combined with sustainability indicators to investigate associations, as well as potential synergies and trade-offs between dietary health effects and environmental impact. The project also includes a broader food systems perspective, focusing on sustainable dietary patterns, protein diversification, novel foods, and alternative protein sources, as well as their implications for nutritional status and health.

Work duties and responsibilities

At Lund University, a postdoctoral position should provide opportunities for scientific and pedagogical qualifications. Primarily, there is scope for qualifications in research, but also for some higher education pedagogy training. Teaching may also be part of the job duties.

As a postdoctoral researcher within the project Sustainable Food Systems, your work will include data management and statistical analysis of large nutritional epidemiological datasets, as well as writing and publishing scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals. You will also be involved in project management and coordination of research activities, contribute to methodological development for integrating dietary and sustainability data, develop and lead your own research questions within the framework of the project, and participate in international collaborations and reporting within ongoing research projects.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

• PhD or equivalent foreign degree within nutrition, food systems, public health, or a related field. The PhD must be completed no later than the time the employment decision is made
• strong skills in statistics and experience with data analysis in relevant software (e.g. R or Stata)
• experience working with nutritional epidemiological data
• experience integrating sustainability and nutrition-related research questions
• good pedagogical ability
• experience in project management or coordination of research projects
• ability to work independently, in a structured manner, and collaboratively

Meritorious for the position are:

• Priority will be given to applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline
• Formal training in project management

The assessment of applicants will be based primarily on their scientific merit and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific ability within the subject area.

About the employment

The employment is limited to a minimum of two years, maximum three years, according to the collective agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoctoral researcher (the Swedish Employers' Association). A postdoctoral position is intended as an initial step in a career and as an opportunity to further deepen and broaden research expertise.
