The MAX IV Scientific Data group develops and supports software projects for data acquisition and analysis from the beamline experimental stations. We deal with challenging high data
rates and large data volumes using modern software frameworks and computing infrastructure,
integrating them into effective, high performance and sustainable services. Team members work
closely together with MAX IV scientists, engineers, beamline users, HPC experts and with MAX
IV partners from the Nordic academia, industry and other large-scale facilities. We see this position as especially suitable for current students.

Work duties and areas of responsibility
The main activities of the Scientific Data group cover the acquisition and processing of data from
X-ray detectors; the operation and performance of such detectors themselves; the development of
software and methods for data visualisation, correction and analysis; development and support of
scientific software infrastructure for analysis of data from synchrotron experiments. There are
opportunities for project work in all of these areas with a blend of the mathematical/analytical
with scientific software engineering - depending on the abilities and interest of the successful
candidate. 

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications
Have at least 60 hp (Bachelor or Master degree program) in Science, Mathematics,
Engineering, e-Sciences, or similar field

Have a good knowledge of fundamentals of scientific programming in a high-level
programming language (e.g Python, C++) in a Linux environment

Be comfortable working in an English speaking group.

One or more of the below are seen as merits
Theoretical and/or experimental knowledge in relevant scientific techniques or technology:
X-ray scattering, imaging or spectroscopy; X-ray detectors

Practical experience in a scientific software project related to Photon and Neutron sciences
in general or an experiment at MAX IV

Basic experience with collaborative software development

Practical experience in data acquisition or data analysis.

This is a part-time (20%) temporary employment with end date 2024-06-14.
