About us

Linguistics is a dynamic education and research environment at the Centre for Languages and Literature at Lund University. Phonetics is a central part of the linguistics environment and is world leading in research on prosody with a neurolinguistic focus. Education in linguistics includes undergraduate courses, master's level courses and doctoral courses. The research environment is complemented by a number of externally financed researchers and a number of doctoral students. Since the division is relatively small, teaching staff in linguistics are also expected to perform administrative tasks and, if necessary, assist other subjects at the Centre for Languages and Literature. All research personnel are also encouraged to apply for externally funded research projects to further strengthen the research environment.

Duties

The current position involves a maximum of 70% teaching and a minimum of 20% research and professional development. Duties may also include administration. You will teach a number of courses in phonetics at both undergraduate and master's level. In addition to that, you will teach phonetics and linguistics in a number of other language subjects at the Centre of Languages and Literature, including English. The need is currently greatest in Japanese and Chinese. You will also supervise as well as examine student theses at BA and MA level in the above-mentioned subjects. You will also be expected to contribute to developing the research environment in phonetics and phonology, preferably in a typological direction.

Required qualifications

  • PhD in phonetics, phonology or related subject of relevance to the position, or equivalent scientific competence or any other professional skill that is of importance with regard to the subject content and duties of the employment.
  • Good general subject knowledge in the basics of linguistics.

  • Demonstrated teaching expertise.
  • Completed training in teaching and learning in higher education of least five weeks or equivalent competence that has been acquired by other means. If there are valid reasons, for example that the applicant has lacked opportunities to acquire the requisite knowledge in his or her former positions, an appointment can still be made. In such cases, the appointee is to complete the required training in teaching and learning in higher education within the first two years of employment.
