The MAX IV Technical Division is primarily responsible to provide technology and knowledge as support for MAX IV´s portfolio of beamlines, accelerator and technical infrastructure in service of its mission as an international scientific user facility. The Technical Division consists of two Engineering groups, four ICT groups and the central project office. More than 300 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory, whereof roughly 100 within the Technical Division and 25 in this Engineering group.

We are now looking for an Engineering Manager within the Technical Division.
As an Engineering group manager, you will be responsible for four different teams: Mechanical design, Mechanical workshop, Vacuum team and the SAM-team (Survey, Alignment, Mechanical stability). Each team has a Team leader who coordinates the work planning of project activities and operations support for the team members consisting of highly skilled technicians and engineers.
You will report to the Technical Director of MAX IV and be a member of the Technical Division Management Team. The role involves continuous and close interaction with many actors from other divisions at the facility.

Some of your responsibilities are:  

  • Managing an Engineering group, including setting goals and priorities, assessing and managing the resources of the group (financial and staffing), including also consultants, and  organisational set up, in line with the overall strategy and plan of Technical Division and the facility
  • As a member in the Technical Division Management Team contribute to the strategic development and roadmap of the Division and represent your group in strategic discussions in the organization
  • With support of the Team leaders enhance processes for operational support and project activities as well as planning and coordinating activities within your group
  • Develop, provide, maintain and align within MAX IV the group responsibilities within areas such as:
    o Mechanical design
    o Mechanical workshop ​
    o Vacuum technology
    o Survey, alignment and mechanical stability
  • Ensure effective information flow within your group, between your group and other parts of MAX IV as well as between the Technical Division Management Team and staff
  • Collaboration with other group managers and functions at MAX IV, as well as with external partners and suppliers
  • Responsible for the work environment in your group, and to promote a work environment that supports the professional well-being of your group members, teamwork, trust, and transparency


To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent

Skills/Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience from a management position with advanced engineering technologies leading highly competent technical professionals
  • Technical background from areas of relevance for this position such as mechanical engineering, vacuum technology, X-ray instrumentation or high precision mechanical design and manufacturing
  • Good leadership skills and years of proven track record of managing people, team or projects
  • Experience from working in a research and development environment
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, including teamwork capability
  • Good management skills, including an aptitude for planning and coordination as well as attention to details
  • Ability to lead and develop others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
