The International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) is an international and interdisciplinary centre of excellence at Lund University. We advance knowledge on how to catalyse the transition to low-carbon and resource efficient economies across different levels of governance and management. We conduct research across the themes of international and national policy intervention, urban governance and experimentation, business management and practice, and consumption governance.
Subject description
The post-doctoral candidate will work in the area of sustainable business model innovation in relation to clean energy and the circular economy, and the role of intellectual property (IP) and IP rights (IPR) in sustainability transitions.
The work will be carried out for the project Intellectual Property Models to Accelerate Sustainability Transitions (IPACST), funded by the Belmont Forum programme “Transformations to Sustainability”. Transformations to sustainability rely on innovation with complex diffusion and adoption processes. The role of intellectual property (IP) and IP rights (IPR) in sustainability transitions remains insufficiently understood. The project will build an interdisciplinary research that furthers our understanding of dynamic sustainable development focusing on the intersection of IP(R) and sustainable business models. The postdoc will develop and promote conceptual and analytical tools, best-practice cases and guidelines, and training for key stakeholders such as policy makers, businesses and educational institutions.
Work duties
The main duties involved in a post-doctoral posistion is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position shall include the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.
The post-doctoral candidate will develop cases of sustainable business models, develop conceptual and analytical tools and approaches and training kits in relation to the IPACST project. The area of focus for the postdoc will be on sustainable business model innovation with a specific focus on circular economy and clean energy. Other consortia partners have complimentary expertise in IP (R). The candidate will collaborate with project partners to develop cases, tools and eventually training. The candidate is expected to teach in Masters programmes run by the IIIEE in English. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to supervise doctoral students. Finally, the candidate will be involved in administration.
Qualification requirements
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Terms of employment This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.
