We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

MAXPEEM is a photoelectron spectromicroscopy beamline (30-1500 eV) which hosts a state-of-the-art aberration corrected low energy electron microscope capable of imaging with high spatial resolution, down to less than 10 nm. MAXPEEM is currently in its first cycle of user operation and is situated on the 1.5 GeV ring.

We are now looking for a postdoc to join our team, who enjoys working in an international and creative environment and on an advanced instrument. The position is linked to the SSF project “Novel two- dimensional systems: from growth to applications”.

Main task
The candidate is expected to develop his/her own research program within the SSF project’s remit and exploit the unique possibilities of the advanced microscope. The main task is then to run experiments on the microscope and beamline that are linked to the program, and the partners within the project. Collaborations with other users at the frontiers of the field are also encouraged, as well as side projects connected to instrument development.

The tasks also include

  • Taking a share of the user support
  • Participating in the expansion of the present and future user community of the MAXPEEM beamline
  • Participating in commissioning tasks at the beamline and its infrastructure together with the rest of the team.

Qualifications
The candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in physics or another field relevant to the project.

Essential requirements
The candidate should demonstrate experience in several of the following areas

  • Defining and exploring novel research directions, especially within low energy (photo)electron microscopy or in closely related techniques
  • Managing instrumentation projects and reaching highest possible level of performance
  • Computer control or advanced data analysis & programming
  • Manuscript preparation and scientific presentation

Additional requirements that are considered assets

  • Experience in development and/or operation of a low energy (photo)electron microscope
  • Experience in providing user support
  • Experience in related synchrotron or electron spectro/microscopy techniques

Other qualifications that are important are independence and an ability to take initiative.
The work requires very good communication and interpersonal skills, and a solid command of English, both oral and written.

The position is a 2-year temporary employment.

Depending on the level of experience, the person may either be hired as postdoc or temporary scientist.
