Lund University, MAX IV , Imaging

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

Your team
NanoMAX is a nanoprobe beamline designed to take full advantage of MAX IV’s exceptionally low emittance and the resulting coherence properties of the X-ray beam.

The use of diffraction-limited optics allows producing tightly focused, coherent nanobeams enabling imaging applications at unprecedented resolution. Available techniques include scanning X-ray diffraction and coherent imaging in the Bragg geometry, forward ptychography and coherent diffraction imaging, as well as fluorescence mapping. The NanoMAX beamline has been in operation since late 2017.

Would you like to work at the brightest lightsource in the world?

Tasks
The successful candidate will join the team at NanoMAX and contribute to the daily operation. You will use and help develop state-of-the-art nanoprobe methods involving scanning coherent x-ray diffraction, and be involved in implementing, testing and developing more advanced analysis routines for these experiments and support users in need of these tools. Finally, you will have the chance to present your work at national and international scientific meetings, have the opportunity for your own scientific research at NanoMAX and develop collaborations with other beamlines, method experts, and expert users in both academia and industry.

To summarize, we are looking for a creative and motivated person to help us further increase the functionality of the NanoMAX beamline, with an ultimate goal of implementing user friendly software tools and ensuring their impact in a number of scientific challenges.

Qualifications
PhD in relevant field (Physics, Chemistry, Applied mathematics, or Engineering).

Essential requirements:
- Several year's experience with coherent x-ray imaging, diffraction and/or phase retrieval methods.
- Several year's experience in advanced X-ray data analysis.
- Scientific computer programming skills, with demonstrated experience in python.
- Solid mathematical background.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Demonstrated ability to work in teams and interact with a diverse group of scientists and technical staff in a dynamic environment, and bringing projects to a successful close through eg. papers, patents etc.

Additional requirements are considered assets:
Experience of
- Nanoscale characterization.
- Collaborative software development for scientific applications.

What we offer
When you join our MAX IV family, you step into a world of front edge science. We make the invisible visible by supporting scientist from all over the world, generating scientific results for the benefit of society. We offer you a multicultural work environment with great opportunities for personal development with respect for a healthy work-life balance.
