Lunds universitet, MAX IV, BO

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

Do you want to work with X-ray optics at the currently most brilliant synchrotron source in the world that is in operation?

The X-ray beams at the MAX IV source offer unique qualities in terms of brightness and coherence. Preserving these qualities through the beamline to the sample is of key importance for the success of all MAX IV beamlines. This requires careful optical design and state-of-the-art optical components, as well as expertise in commissioning and operating our beamline optical systems.

You have the background and interest to make a significant contribution to optics for this new generation of synchrotron sources, in aspects of initial design (raytracing, heat load simulations), procurements, metrology, installations, commissioning and support of operations, including quality assurance. You are familiar with analytical and computational approaches to optics design, and ideally have some experience in soft X-ray optics and optical systems. You have been following the latest developments within wave front preserving and extreme focusing optics.

Your work will be to ensure we have sufficient in-house knowledge and secure external collaboration with other labs around the world.

The position is located in the Beamline Office group at MAX IV. You will work in close collaboration with the individual beamline teams as well as a number of other functions that are involved in the abovementioned tasks. You will support them with your expertise and act as the spider in the web, coordinating optics related activities. Therefore, you enjoy interacting with people from different groups, are dedicated to provide excellent quality and service, are structured and able to establish new routines. You enjoy being present on the experimental hall floor but you can also work independently and focused on a specific theoretical problem.

Qualifications

As for your background, you have PhD within a relevant field or you have obtained the corresponding knowledge by combining e.g. a Master in Engineering with several years of working within this field. We believe that you have deep and documented interest in X-ray optics, solid experience with the majority of the mentioned tasks, and related working experience at synchrotron facilities.

We are asking a lot from you and offer you in return a key position at a vibrant and growing laboratory at the very forefront of the synchrotron community. You will be a very visible person at MAX IV, both to the inside and to the outside, and you will to some extent define the exact future content of this position.
