MAX IV scientific software is a small team developing and supporting scientific software projects for data analysis at the new generation light-sources. It is challenging high data rates and large data volumes using modern software frameworks and computing infrastructure, integrating them into effective, high performance and sustainable services. Team members have to work closely together with MAX IV scientists, engineers, users, HPC experts and with MAX IV partners from the Nordic academia, industry and other large-scale facilities.

Data Storage and Management Project (DataStaMP) project aims to improve overall MAX IV data management infrastructure, extend data storage capacity and related e-Services.

Work duties and areas of responsibility
Due to increasing data rates, prolonged archiving periods and complexity of data analysis at large scale Photon and Neutron (PaN) infrastructures there is a need for extending e-Services for remote scientific data visualization and analysis. From various reasons Web applications are getting increased attention from both developers and synchrotron user communities.

The essence of this position within the DataStaMP project is to develop and extend such services, and in particular scientific web applications at MAX IV, in order they fit specific needs of MAX IV scientific staff and user community as well as the highest standards for sustainable development, effective maintenance and operation.

This includes implementation and prototyping of new scientific applications, adjustments and extension of existing ones as well as development of completely new features. Good communication and collaboration with other team members, MAX IV scientists, other MAX IV units, European PaN facilities and HPC experts will be needed. The work is done in synergy with other projects, in particular ExPaNDS.

Requirements
- Master or PhD in e-Sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Natural or Computer Sciences.
- Demonstrated practical experience in scientific Web application deployment and development (at least on the level of a project or consecutive projects for a period of 1.5 years).
- Good practice in scientific computing and sustainable software development.

Desirable
- Participation in a similar web application or e-Infrastructure project, ideally in relation to PaN sciences.
- Knowledge and experience from PaN sciences.
- PhD in e-Sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Natural or Computer Sciences.

Other
Collaboration with other facilities and partners may require occasional short international travels, if possible with respect to the situation.

The successful candidate is creative, performance oriented, a problem solver, takes initiative and has the ability to cooperate.
