Your team
The macromolecular crystallography (MX) group is responsible for the two beamlines BioMAX and MicroMAX and the fragment screening facility FragMAX, all supporting structural biology research aiming at understanding biology at a molecular level with applications in drug development and biotechnology. The international and interdisciplinary MX group consists of around 15 persons.

Would you like to work at one of the brightest lightsources in the world?

MAX IV are looking for an engineer who will maintain and develop the beamline instrumentation at BioMAX and MicroMAX. You will work with the other members of the BioMAX and MicroMAX teams to make sure the beamlines are functioning and ready to serve the research conducted by our users. Your will also be involved in or lead projects to develop and improve instrumentation at the beamline. You will work in a complex technical and scientific environment, but your skills will be complemented by the skills of others in the group and by other groups at MAX IV. You will work in a group of friendly, curious and skillful staff with different backgrounds. The first round of interviews is scheduled in mid-September and the second round in mid-October.  

Your main work tasks will be

  • Verify and test equipment functionality during commissioning time
  • Solve issues with the equipment, independently and in collaboration with other staff or vendors
  • Take part in or lead instrumentation and controls development projects
  • Support users during their experiments in collaboration with other beamline staff.

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications

  • Bachelors or PhD or equivalent in Physics, Engineering, or another field relevant to the beamline
  • Knowledge and experience of instrumentation such as electronics or motion systems
  • Basic knowledge of programming
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, but also the capacity to work independently
  • Good communication skills, and an excellent command of English, both oral and written.

Below are seen as merits

  • Knowledge of designing electronics or mechanics
  • Knowledge of Python scripting
  • Experience of working with vacuum or cryo equipment
  • Experience of equipment synchronization
  • Experience of working with lasers
  • Experience with synchrotrons or X-ray experiment instrumentation.
