Lunds universitet, MAX IV, Spectroscopy

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The Science division is divided into a number of supporting groups and three scientifically oriented groups, Imaging, Diffraction and Scattering, and Spectroscopy. These groups are further divided into teams based on beamline or scientific technique. Each team has the task to develop and support the instrumentation and scientific activity at the different beamlines. The aim is to maintain and develop state of the art equipment at stable operation.

You will be part of the Bloch team at the Bloch beamline. The beamline is split into two branch lines specialized to angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and spin and angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (SPIN). The beamline is constructed with a cPGM monochromator with a NIM option, sourced by an elliptically polarizing quasi-periodic undulator. The main instrumentation at the ARPES end station is a ScientaOmicron DA30L analyzer with an online ScientaOmicron VT-STM. The SPIN end station will soon start offline commissioning with UV lamp and is equipped with a deflector based SPECS Phoibos 150 analyzer and a 3D-VLEED detector. This is expected to be ready for commissioning with the beam in second quarter of 2020.

You will be working closely with the beamline personnel to help deliver high quality user support for visiting scientists at the ARPES branchline, further commissioning of the beamline and be part in initial offline commissioning of the SPIN endstation. In this role your work and responsibility will be;

  • User support and training of visiting researchers
  • Performing maintenance of beamline and end station instrumentation
  • Operating the STM for visiting researchers
  • Taking an active part in the research projects
  • Taking part in commissioning SPIN end station

 Qualifications:

  • D. or an equivalent degree in physics or related discipline
  • Working with ultra-high vacuum
  • Experience in Angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy
  • Experience in Low energy electron diffraction (LEED)
  • Experience of working in a synchrotron environment
  • Ability to work both unsupervised and in a team
  • Must be fluent both in written and spoken English.

Meriting Qualifications

  • Since this a 6-month substitute knowledge and experience from the current experimental setup at Bloch or similar is a merit.
  • Experience in Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM)
  • Experience in Spin-ARPES
  • Ability to join the group on short notice

This is 6 months temporary employment.
