MAXPEEM is a photoelectron spectromicroscopy beamline (30-1500 eV) at the 1.5GeV ring, which hosts a state-of-the-art aberration corrected low energy electron microscope capable of imaging with high spatial resolution, down to less than 10 nm. MAXPEEM is used for surface sensitive research in a wide range of solid state fields, including magnetism, 2D correlated materials and graphene, as well as industrial research. Tasks
We are now looking for a post-doc who enjoys working in an international and creative environment to join our team working at this advanced instrument. The candidate is expected to develop his/her own research program exploiting the unique possibilities of the microscope. Collaborative projects with users at the frontiers of their field are highly encouraged, as well as side projects connected to instrument development and/or automation. At the beamline you will take a share of the user support and you are invited to participate in the development of the spectromicroscopy beamline, with an aim to widen the scope of techniques available for our user community.
Qualifications
• The candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in physics or another field relevant to the beamline.
Essential requirements
The candidate should demonstrate experience in several of the following areas:
• Defining and exploring novel research directions, especially within low energy (photo)electronmicroscopy, or in closely related techniques
• Managing instrumentation projects and reaching highest possible level of performance
• Experience in control and/or advanced data analysis & programming
• Manuscript preparation and scientific presentation
Additional requirements that are considered assets
• Experience in development and/or operation of a low energy (photo)electron microscope
• Experience in providing user support
• Experience in related synchrotron or electron spectro/microscopy techniques
Other qualifications that are important are independence and an ability to take initiative. The work requires very good communication and interpersonal skills, and a solid command of English, both oral and written.
Eligibility
Appointment to the position of postdoc requires that the applicant has a PhD or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the application deadline. Under special circumstances the PhD can have been completed previous to the aforementioned three years.
