The Department of Political Science announces a job as a project assistant.

Lund University is well-known for its research on the social and political dimension of plastics. Several large research projects run in parallel creating a vibrant multi-disciplinary research environment that span across the entire university.

The employment is related to the STEPS project (www.steps-mistra.se) and concerns the recent global attempt to tackle the issues around plastics. National governments officially started plastic treaty negotiations in December 2022. The second negotiation round will take place in Paris in May-June 2023 and the final in Nairobi in December 2023.

The project assistant will work on mapping the positions of actors and institution that take part in the negotiations by conducting a qualitative content analysis. The project assistant will, together with other researchers, be involved in the examination of power asymmetries, diverging interests, and norm conflicts within the negotiations as an understand of the countries preferred instrument mixes. The outcome of the work will be a report (written in collaboration with other researchers at LU) that provide critical reflections on the negotiations.
