Coherence expert in Multibeam Ptychography for MAX IV

The MAX IV Laboratory has created a paradigm shift in accelerator science by developing the first fourth-generation electron storage ring, which has set a new standard in coherent X-ray beam availability and boosted ultrahigh resolution imaging capabilities. One of the most promising techniques in this regard is X-ray ptychography, which allows a detailed (3D) mapping of extended samples and works across a wide X-ray energy range. To fully utilize the coherent fraction of MAX IV’s light, multi-beam ptychography is a recent development of the method where MAX IV could excel.

MAX IV is now looking for a Senior Coherent Imaging Expert to be attached to MAX IV to work on expanding the use of coherence at beamlines, for a duration of 24 months. The project is funded for 2 years in connection with the vice-chancellor's decision on “Allocation of common funds for recruitment of international excellent competence”.

To boost the use and user-friendliness of this novel coherent imaging method, we would like to attract an expert who is skilled in both multi-beam ptychography hardware (optics) and software (reconstruction algorithms) to help establish, optimize and/or expand this technique at several beamlines at MAX IV, where you will work together with existing beamline staff & support groups towards realization of multi-beam ptychography as a user-friendly method. New developments and ideas for other, novel coherent methods can also be discussed and tested. The work would ideally start in early 2025 and last 24 months.

The work tasks includes:

• Establishing regular and multi-beam ptychography at the CoSAXS beamline. Here, scanning of extensively large samples (largest Field of View, FoV) is the main aim.
• Optimize high throughput multi-beam ptychography at NanoMAX beamline for 3D functional studies: extended FoV, for higher speed 3D imaging.
• Expand & optimize the use of (single beam) ptychography at SoftiMAX (both branches) and test multibeam ptychography, using soft x-ray optics. Here, achieving the highest resolution is the aim.
   

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications:

• PhD in Physics, and several years of experience working in synchrotrons.
• You have demonstrated experience with multi-beam ptychography and other coherence-based imaging methods. This includes both skills in the hardware and software needed for performing these experiments.
• You have successfully completed advanced technical/scientific projects on time and within budget and have demonstrable project planning skills.
• You have a good track record of collaborative project work, both as team member and team leader, and can motivate people who are working with you on your projects.
