Your team

At MAX IV, the Technical Division builds and supports the technologies that enable cutting-edge research, while continuously improving how the facility operates. Within this division, the Software team develops and maintains the control systems, data acquisition software, and user interfaces that researchers rely on every day. We focus on increasing functionality and reliability across the facility to meet the demands of world-class science. We provide laboratory wide software solutions following international standards in synchrotrons, such as data acquisition, control system, web-based user interfaces, distributed hardware control, scanning tools for running experiments, and metadata harvesting, to meet the continuously evolving research requirements. 

You will join an open and friendly team of 20 developers of diverse backgrounds, where continuous improvement and mentorship is part of our DNA. As part of the Software group, you will work in close collaboration with scientists as well as network, system, software and hardware engineers and scientific software experts. We promote a DevOps style cross functional team and encourage mutual support between all team members.

Your main work tasks will include:

Primarily, your main responsibility will be the technical development and customization of the organization’s intranet using SharePoint. This includes creating modern pages, site components, and custom solutions. You will work with SharePoint and related digital platforms to build a functional and user‑friendly intranet. Your work may involve configuring site structures, designing and improving web pages, developing custom components, integrating data from internal systems, and supporting the communication and collaboration needs of the facility.

Secondarily, the position is placed within the Software Applications Team, which is responsible for the maintenance and development of several web tools, including DUO, J5, and Domni among others. This means the role also involves contributing to feature development, troubleshooting, system integrations, and ensuring these applications remain reliable and aligned with the operational needs of the facility.

The work will be conducted in close collaboration with the Communications Team at MAX IV.

 

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications

  • A relevant technical degree
  • Front-end development experience: React, JavaScript, TypeScript and HTML
  • State management and API experience: Redux, Recoil, REST
  • A solution-focused and user‑driven mindset

Below are seen as very important merits as they are used by the facility

  • Experience with operation support in a scientific environment, such as Taranta and Jest, ISPyB, or SciCat
  • Knowledge of distributed control systems such as Tango Controls or EPICS
  • Knowledge of scanning frameworks like Sardana or Bluesky
  • Knowledge of code lifecycle management: git, Conda, packaging, Ansible, etc.
  • Evidence of participation in an open‑source community collaboration
  • Experience working in an international, research‑oriented environment
