The Low-Density Matter (LDM) team at MAX IV is engaged in activities related to gas-phase and liquid phase research.
We are now looking for an enthusiastic and skilled postdoctoral researcher with expertise in LDM physics to participate in various projects managed by the LDM team at MAX IV.
In addition to participating in different aspects of design, building and commissioning of various pieces of equipment, the candidate is also expected to participate in user support when the LDM instrumentation is in use at one of MAX IV’s LDM-relevant beamlines.
Description of the LDM-team
MAX IV currently has 5 LDM-relevant beamlines: FlexPES, FinEstBeAMS, FemtoMAX, VERITAS and RIXS @ SPECIES. Each of these beamlines will either be regularly engaged in Low Density Matter activities, or, it will be capable of accommodating mobile LDM equipment, or, it has the possibility of allowing some form of LDM measurements at one of its own end stations.
A mobile modular end station for LDM research is currently under development at MAX IV. The ICE end station will provide the MAX IV Low Density Matter community with instrumentation to enable high-resolution multi-coincidence and momentum imaging spectroscopies.
The current scope of the ICE project (which was decided upon in close-collaboration with our user community), foresees the availability of two types of multi-coincidence spectrometers – a reaction microscope spectrometer (REMI) and a Magnetic Bottle Electron Spectrometer (MBES).
Commissioning of the REMI with soft x-ray radiation is planned for the autumn of 2019. The MBES is currently in the design stage. Further projects involving potential new end stations for Low Density Matter research are also being pursued.
Job description
The work tasks of the postdoc in the LDM-team include, but are not limited to, the following:
The candidate will have the possibility to apply for beamtimes at MAX IV to conduct his or her own research using the LDM equipment at MAX IV or to apply for beamtimes at other facilities. Therefore, it is expected that the candidate will have a strong vision with regards to various research projects that they would like to pursue whilst employed in this position.
Qualifications
The candidate must also have a good command of the English language in order to effectively communicate with users and staff at the laboratory.
Additionally, meriting qualifications
Important information: This is a post-doctoral position for two years. Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the doctoral degree or equivalent is completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree may have been completed earlier.
We are planning to start the first round of interviews in the second half of January 2020.
