Lund University, MAX IV , Accelerator Developement

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

We are a group of roughly ten people dealing with different aspects of accelerator development. It could be within beam dynamics, magnet technology, laser technology or other areas. We are now looking for a Summer worker.

Tasks
In our 1.5 GeV storage ring are presently preparations performed to compensate the linear focussing errors each insertion devise (ID) add to the ring magnetic lattice. This will help to a certain extent to alleviate injection and beam lifetime degradations at small ID gaps and various ID phases. The next step would be to experimentally investigate the influence from each individual ID, and to prepare magnetic compensations within each ID. The student should set up an experimental scheme to investigate the influence from the IDs . It will require some basic knowledge/studies in accelerator beam dynamics. Thereafter should the student involve in studies how to compensate the deteriorative effects, possibly with permanent magnets. Knowledge/studies in magnetostatics and permanent magnetism would then be necessary.
