The Faculty of Science conducts research and education within Biology, Astronomy, Physics, Geosciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Environmental Sciences. The Faculty is organized into nine departments, gathered in the northern campus area. The Faculty has approximately 1500 students, 330 PhD students and 700 employees.
The Centre for Environmental and Climate Research, CEC (http://www.cec.lu.se) conducts research, education and communication on environmental science and climate research at Lund University.
Duties
The researcher will participate in several projects with the overarching aim of scientifically evaluating alternative policy options to conserve biodiversity in agricultural landscapes. Such options include reducing agricultural intensity and preserving semi-natural habitats at multiple spatial scales. The work includes analyzing existing data and contributing to design and execution of new studies at landscape scales. The successful candidate is expected to be involved in several multidisciplinary research projects within the research group Biodiversity and Conservation Science, and will also be expected to provide advisory support to PhD students and postdocs in the group. The work of the group is embedded in the cross-disciplinary strategic research area BECC (Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in a Changing Climate), to which the successful candidate is expected to contribute.
Qualifications
We are looking for a PhD in ecology, agronomy or environmental science with postdoctoral experience and a strong research background in biodiversity and ecosystem services in agricultural landscapes. Skills and documented experience in carrying out and coordinating field studies at landscape scales, GIS analysis and statistical analysis are required for the position. Knowledge about biodiversity in temperate agricultural landscapes, in particular insects, is a strong merit, as is knowledge about organic farming systems. Importantly, the applicant must have a proven ability to pursue independent research and be keen to participate in multidisciplinary teamwork. Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English are required; basic knowledge of Swedish is a merit. A driving license is required.
The main criteria for the evaluation of applicants will be scientific skills. Emphasis will also be put on the extent to which the applicant can contribute to the general development of research within the research group and the strategic research area BECC.
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
