Project assistant for the project “The politics of state building: Studying investments in state capacity through legislative debates”.

The Department of Political Science at Lund University, is looking for a project assistant for the research project “The politics of state building: Studying investments in state capacity through legislative debates”. The project applies computational text analysis of parliamentary debates in several countries from Europe and the Americas to study the development of state capacity from the early nineteenth century to the present.

Tasks
The position will involve the following tasks:
1.    Manual coding of text data in Spanish (potentially also in other languages depending on the candidate’s language skills)
2.    Data collection based on archival and secondary sources
3.    Other administrative tasks

Essential requirements: 
•    BA or equivalent degree in the social sciences
•    Fluency in English and Spanish (knowledge of Swedish or French are additional assets)
•    Reliability, ability to meet deadlines and to solve problems independently
•    Ability to be present in Lund at least once a week.  

What we offer: 
•    This is a temporary part-time position (50%) for six months, from October 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024
•    Flexible hours, with work space available at the Department of Political Science, Lund University
